Successful cultivation of button mushrooms (Agaricus bisporus) requires precise control over the spawning and mycelium management processes. These stages are essential to ensure healthy mycelium growth and prepare the substrate for a productive harvest.
Spawning: After completing the secondary fermentation, open the doors and windows for ventilation. Allow the substrate temperature to drop to around 28°C, and ensure the outdoor temperature is below 30°C. At this point, begin the spawning process. For every square meter of growing area, evenly distribute 750ml of wheat grain spawn. Gently mix the spawn into the substrate surface, then press and level it. Close the doors and windows to maintain a stable environment with temperatures between 22°C and 25°C and humidity levels between 70% and 80%. This environment promotes the effective germination of the mycelium.
Mycelium Management: Around 7 to 10 days after spawning, the mycelium will start to cover the surface of the substrate. Gradually increase ventilation to encourage the mycelium to grow evenly down into the substrate. Maintain relative humidity at 70%–80% and temperatures between 22°C and 25°C. Within 20 to 25 days, the mycelium will fully colonize the substrate bed, preparing it for the next phase of growth.
By carefully managing these stages, growers can ensure the healthy development of button mushroom mycelium, leading to a productive harvest. Attention to detail during spawning and mycelium management is key to successful mushroom farming.
